Mouse as a Model System and How to Breed Mice
Mutant Repositories:
Mutant Mice, Cryopreserved Embryos and ES cells
- International Mouse Strain Resource. A database with links to repositories of mutant mice, cryospreserved embryos and gametes and mutant ES cells.
- Mouse Genome Informatics at The Jackson Laboratory has an annotated listing of all mutant mice, with links to sources for the mice. Search for your gene by name, and follow the links to the mutant alleles through the phenotypes links. Also links to the IMSR
- Jax Induced Mutant Resource has an extensive collection of targeted and transgenic mice, with an emphasis on conditional alleles, reporter alleles and Cre driver lines.
- Mutant Mouse Regional Resource Centers
- NCI Frederick Cancer Mouse Repository
- NIA Mutant Mouse Aging Resource
- European Mouse Mutant Archive
- Riken BioResource Center, Japan
Conditional Mutant and Cre Driver Archives and Databases
- The Cre-X-Mice database at SLRI allows you to search for Cre-expressing mice by a variety of criteria
- Jax Induced Mutant Resource has an extensive collection of targeted and transgenic mice, with an emphasis on conditional alleles, reporter alleles and Cre driver lines.
- The European Conditional Mouse Mutagenesis Program (EUCOMM) has an ES cell archive with thousands of conditionally targeted or trapped genes accessed with a searchable database
Gene Trapped ES cell Repositories and Databases
- What is a gene trap? Read the Gene Trap Overview provided by the International Gene Trap Consortium
- The International Genetrap Consortium has a searchable database of gene trapped mutant ES cell lines from a variety of centers.
- Texas Institute for Genomic Medicine has a searchable database of gene trapped mutant ES cell lines, including many genes not expressed in ES cell lines. Knockout lines and mice are also available.
- The European Conditional Mouse Mutagenesis Program (EUCOMM) has an ES cell archive with thousands of conditionally targeted or trapped genes accessed with a searchable database
- BayGenomics
Phenotype-driven Screens for Variants
- Phenotypes and Mutants Community Resources at Jax links to many phenotype-driven screens.
- Large Scale Mutagenesis Program, Riken, Japan
- Center for Modeling Human Disease, Canada

Discussion Groups and Listservs
Listservs are automated email discussion groups. The COMPMED (comparative medicine) listserv is a popular discussion group for vets and IACUC members.
